The Losers: Movie Review

The Losers is the latest big screen flick based on a DC Comic that is pretty darn entertaining while watching it but not very memorable once you leave the theater.    The film stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan ,  Chris Evans,  Idris Elba , Óscar Jaenada & Columbus Short as The Losers.  A Group of soldiers that have been betrayed and left for dead by a very bad guy named Max (Jason Patric).  Max thought  he killed this band of soldiers but guess what.  He didn’t. !!!  Now  it’s time for The Losers to take revenge with the help of a mysterious woman named Aisha (Zoe Saldana) who agrees to get the guys back into the United States and fund the whole revenge plot, though her motives are not all that clear.

The Losers is one of those PG-13 action films where everyone is getting shot yet there is not a single drop of blood spilled.  I hate to have to say this, but  it really could have been much more fun if the film was an over the top R-rated bloodfest (Like last week’s release of Kick Ass).  The real bright spots of The Losers come from Chris Evans (whom I am sure will make a great Captain America)  He has so much energy and he is really fun to watch.  The film’s best scene is all his.  When he enters an office building as a bike messenger and the next 10 minutes that follow are fantastic.  Also, Jason Patric is really good as the baddie.  Not because he is so evil, but because he is pretty funny while being bad.  He plays the villain in such a tongue-n-cheek way, and I can’t really remember ever seeing Patric play a character like this before.

The motives of Max are all about a super weapon that he wants to sell and get rich off of, but really, I couldn’t care less about that.  The fun of the film is really in the characters.  I just wish it was more of an all out hardcode action comedy and wasn’t so mild.  So is The Losers worth your $10 to go see it at the theater  ?  I can tell you this.  If you want to be entertained for 98 minutes but not want to have to think to much.  Sure, go see it.  Though if you like your action really hard core and you want to see a film that’s just a little smarter, go spend your $10 on a ticket to see Kick Ass instead.
